Hello Kitty Kyaraben
"Kyaraben" is short for "Character Bento" which in Japan is a type of lunchpack where the food looks like a popular character, such as Hello Kitty! You can easily make a Kyaraben if you have a onigiri case, but even if you don't you can still follow some of the steps below to come up with your own variation!
- Rice (50g)
- Canned tuna (1 tsp)
- Mayonnaise (1 tsp)
- Pinch of salt
- Pinch of pepper
- Nori seaweed (3cm x 3cm)
- "Kamaboko" crab puree (or ham!) (1)
- Hello Kitty onigiri case (1)
Mix the tuna and mayonnaise and add salt and pepper as you like to adjust to your taste.
Add water into a bowl and dip the Hello Kitty case in the water.
Assemble the part of the case that makes up Kitty's face.
Stuff half the rice into the case and flatten it with a spoon. Add the tuna mixture on top of the rice.
Add the rest of the rice on top.
Close the case with the lid and turn it around.
Carefully lift the case off of the rise.
Cut out some seaweed parts to make up Kitty's eyes, whiskers and nose. You can use the case as a template!
Cut a thin slice of the kamaboko to preserve just the reddish part of it. This will become Kitty's ribbon! If you can't find kamaboko, you can use ham instead!
Use a pair of scissors to cut the shape of the ribbon, again using the case as a template.
If using kamaboko you can use a straw to cut some circles in the remaining white part and add some extra decoration to the ribbon.
You have all the parts for Kitty's face!
Now for the fun part, add Kitty's eyes, whiskers, nose, and ribbon to the rice ball.
Now you made it, don't forget to take a Cooksnap photo to upload below! Recipe authors always LOVE to hear from you and see how their recipe turned out in your kitchen.
