Homemade Dried Basil
It's great to grow your own fresh basil at home- no pesticides and it tastes so good! But it does tend to get get a little crazy and grow like a bush... Don't let all that fresh basil go to waste- turn it into your own homemade dried basil that you can keep for the rest of the winter! This is a super quick way to make it using your microwave :)
- Fresh basil (Pick as much as you want!)
Pick as much basil as you need to get your plant back under control. Wash it well, because you don't want any crispy bugs ending up in with your basil... ew!
After washing the leaves, lay them out on paper towels and soak up as much extra water as possible. You can ignore that butternut squash...;)
After patting dry the leaves, lay out the basil on dry paper towels in an even layer (try not to pile it up). Microwave for 2-5 minutes, but make sure you check that the basil isn't getting burnt a few times during the microwaving because microwaves differ in power. Once the moisture is gone and the leaves are crispy, it's done!
Take the crispy basil and crush into smaller pieces with your hands. Keep in bottles in the refrigerator or in the freezer. That butternut squash looks so much bigger now, doesn't it? :P
