Smiley Face Tofu Meatballs -Teriyaki taste
These meatballs include a lot of tofu but even if your child doesn’t like eating tofu very much, they will definitely be interested in this dish (and maybe they’ll eat it!) thanks to the delicious sauce and smiley face :)
- [Meat ball]
- Cotton Tofu (1/3 pack)
- Ground pork (30g)
- Pinch of nutmeg
- Pinch of salt & pepper
- Onion (1/8)
- Beaten egg (1 tbs)
- Breadcrumbs (1/2 cup (100cc))
- [Teriyaki sauce]
- Soy sauce (1 tbs)
- Mirin (1 tbs)
- Sake (1 tbs)
- Sugar (1 tbs)
- [Smiley face]
- Sliced cheese (1/2 slice)
- Sea weed (1/2 slice)
Put kitchen paper on a heat resistant plate and place the tofu on top. Microwave for 3 minutes. Take it out and let it cool.
Finely chop the onion.
Add some vegetable oil to the pan, place it over medium heat and fry it until the onion becomes soft.
Add the pinch of nutmeg, salt and pepper to the vinyl bag with meat and knead it until they become pink.
Put the tofu into vinyl bags and knead it by hand until their are completely squashed.
Put the onion, 1 Tbs of beaten egg and 1/2 cup of breadcrumbs in the bag and knead them too.
Keep squashing the ingredients until they look like this.
Use a table spoon to make bite sized round shapes out of the mixture. (you can make about 6~7 balls.)
Put some vegetable oil into the frying-pan and place over medium heat.
Cook each meatball on the frying pan until it gets brown and firm.
Mix 1 Tbs of soy sauce, mirin, sake and sugar in a cup to make teriyaki sauce.
Pour the teriyaki sauce mixture on the meatballs.
Use a circular motion when pouring to make sure the meatballs are seasoned thoroughly!
Cut out circles from a slice of cheese to form the basis of the eyes. If you have a "food hole punch" like the one in the picture, use that!
If not, you can use a straw instead.
Cut out some nori seaweed to make pretty eyes :)
After the eyes are completed, arrange them on the meatballs!
Make your own smiley meatballs variations!
