Walnut Sweet - NAZOOK

This sweet is a combination of yogurt, flour, different spices and walnuts. PERFECT for your afternoon tea time and a great snack whenever you feel like having some energy!
Background: This is a sweet made in the north-west part of Iran, and also made with a bit different ingredients in Armenia.
North west of Iran (TABRIZ CITY)
- plain yogurt (1 cup)
- All-Purpose flour (5 cups)
- eggs (2 M)
- sugar (2 cups)
- baking powder (1 Tsp)
- yeast (1/2 Tsp)
- Unsalted butter (2 1/2 Tbsp)
- vegetable oil (1 cup)
- walnuts (1 cup)
- cardamom powder (1/4 Tsp)
- nutmeg (1/4 Tsp)
- cinammon (1/2 Tbsp)
Grind the walnuts
Combine the yogurt, yeast, baking powder, 2/3 cup vegetable oil and 1 cup of sugar in a large bowl.
Beat one egg until stiff and add to the bowl, stir well
Add 4 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour to the bowl gradually, combine well
Knead the batter for few minutes.
In a small pot, combine 1/4 cup of vegetable oil with 2 & 1/2 tbsp of unsalted butter. Heat the pot and stir until well mixed.
Add 1 cup of powdered sugar to the butter pot.
Add the cardamom powder, nutmeg powder, cinnamon, half cup of all purpose flour and the ground walnuts to the pot, and mix thoroughly.
On a well floured working surface, roll out and halve the batter
Using a rolling pin, roll the batter into a squareSpread half of the butter/walnut mixture across the batter evenly
Roll the batter into a oval cylinder.Cut the batter vertically (2-3 inches).
Place the batters on a well floured nonstick bake ware.Beat one egg and brush the surface of each batter
Preheat the oven to 350º f (176º c)
Place the batters in the oven and bake for 35 minutes or until golden.
Have it with a cup of coffee or tea!
